Doing good

I am happy to inform you all that the fundraising I had organised for my 50th birthday has been a succes. Together we have raised a total sum of USD 497:

Against Malaria – USD 211
With this amount 105 nets could be purchased, protecting 189 people!

Cool Earth – USD 64
This money has gone to project Yakolima and is used to empower 67 families in Gaduisu Village in East Papua New Guinea to halt the advancing of the palm oil frontier. Thanks to your contribution not only the population of 652 will do better, but also 6,792 species of animals will be sheltered and 101 endangered species protected!

Evidence Action – USD 188
The cost per child for a single deworming tablet is less than USD 0.50. By raising USD 188 you have directly impacted the lives of 376 children!

Again a big THANK YOU! from the bottom of my heart.

Half a million people die each year of malaria and 400 million fall ill, 70% of them are children under 5, it is the #1 killer of pregnant women. Malaria is preventable. A net is the most effective means of prevention and cost only 2 USD per net.

Half of the world’s rainforest has already been destroyed. Cool Earth has found the key to halting deforestation. They put people, not trees, first. They don’t buy land. Instead, they put local people back in control of their forest. Local people stand to lose the most from deforestation but the most to gain from its protection. As such, they are the forest’s best possible custodians. That’s why all Cool Earth partnerships are community-owned and led – an approach that research is continually proving to be the most effective way to keep rainforest standing.

Deworm the World Initiative

More than 836 million children are at risk of parasitic worm infections worldwide. These infections interfere with nutrient uptake and can lead to anaemia, malnourishment, and impaired mental and physical development. They pose a serious threat to children’s long-term health, education, and productivity. Infected children are often too sick or tired to concentrate at school, or to attend at all. A significant body of evidence shows that deworming works to improve children’s health, well-being, education, and long-term economic future.

Besides the horrific problem of Famine, there is also its often-forgotten sister Malnutrition. There are over 2 billion people who, whilst having access to food, are lacking access to vital nutrients. Micronutrient deficiencies (not getting enough vitamins and minerals) are the leading cause of intellectual disability in children, preventable blindness among adults, and maternal death during childbirth. Food fortification saves lives.
